Pricing explained
What decides the price of a piano move
Piano removalists in Melbourne price moves differently from general furniture movers. Instead of charging by the hour, we look at the specific job and give you a fixed price, so there is no meter running if a staircase takes longer than expected.
1. The type of piano
An upright is the most straightforward move. Pianolas are heavier. Baby grands and grands need dismantling, a skid board and a larger crew, so they cost more to move than an upright over the same route.
2. Stairs and steps
Stairs are the biggest variable. A ground floor to ground floor move is the simplest. Every flight, landing or tight turn adds time, equipment and sometimes an extra mover. Tell us how many steps there are at each end, including front steps and garden paths.
3. Access at both properties
Narrow hallways, tight doorways, a long carry from the street, steep driveways, apartment lifts and loading docks all affect how long the move takes and how many people we need.
4. Distance
Moves within the same or neighbouring suburbs cost less than cross-town moves. Regional and long distance trips are priced on travel time as well as the move itself.
5. Timing
We can often fit in urgent moves. Booking a few days ahead gives us the best chance of matching your preferred day and time.
How to get an accurate quote
The fastest way to an exact price is to tell us:
- the type of piano, and the brand if you know it
- the pick up and delivery suburbs
- the number of steps at each end, and any turns or landings
- anything unusual, such as a long carry, a lift, or a steep driveway
With those details we can usually confirm a fixed price the same day. Photos of the stairs or access help on trickier jobs.
What is included
Every quote includes a specialist crew, padded blankets, skid boards and trolleys, careful loading, transport in our padded truck, placement in your chosen spot and insurance from pick up to placement. There are no extra charges for wrapping or equipment.
Is it worth hiring specialist piano movers?
A piano is one of the heaviest and most valuable things in most homes. General removalists often lack the skid boards, stair trolleys and experience to move one safely, and damage to a piano, a floor or a staircase can cost far more than the move itself. A specialist crew is the cheaper option once the risks are counted.

Yes. We are licensed and insured and your piano is covered from pick up to placement at no extra charge.
